THE ONE WHERE GOD IS JEALOUS

I used to love watching series. One time when I was watching 24, I realized that the last episode of the season that I was watching had been omitted. I quickly jumped on a boda at 9pm without thinking about my safety, and went to the video library to complain. Luckily, I found the place open and they copied it for me. It’s only after I watched that last episode that I was able to sleep in peace. That’s just how emotionally invested I was.

What I didn’t know was that the series was corrupting my mind. The more I watched it, the more paranoid I became. I started feeling like someone was following me to kill me. I started looking over my shoulder and hearing sounds that weren’t there. I started recording phone calls. I was going crazy.

Eventually, I realized these series was taking over my mind and my whole life. That was my turning point!

While growing up and in my recent past, I have heard God being regarded as “a jealous God”.

14 (for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God), 15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them invites you and you eat of his sacrifice, 16 and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods. Exodus 34:14–16

I didn’t understand what this meant until the reason was revealed to me.

God is jealous because he is the only who, the more you have of him, the better your life is. The further you are from him, occupying yourself with the things of the world, the more destructive your life is.

You can’t go wrong immersing yourself in reading the word, worshipping, fellowshipping with the saints, loving other people, being involved in ministry…. you can add to the list.

God knows that he is the only one that can love us with absolutely no strings attached. He is the only one that has the good plans- plans to prosper us- to give us a future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

God being jealous for me is his way of making sure that I laugh in a benz.
